VIC: Compulsory acquisition of Waverley urged by Opposition

MELBOURNE, Jan 11 AAP - The Victorian government should consider compulsorily acquiring
Waverley Park to save it from closure, the State opposition said today.

Legal advice revealed the government had the powers to save the AFL venue, opposition
sports spokesman John Pandazopoulos said.

These included re-zoning the land as a site of significance, enabling it to be bought at
the valuer-general's rate of $32 million.
